The Spring Sale 16th May 201227Designed as project ADO15 (Austin Drawing Office project number 15), the Mini came about because of a fuel shortage caused by the 1956 Suez Crisis. Petrol was once again rationed in the UK, sales of large cars slumped, the market for German bubble cars boomed. Leonard Lord, the somewhat autocratic head of BMC, reportedly detested these cars so much that he vowed to rid the streets of them and design a 'proper miniature car'. Issigonis, who had been working for Alvis, had been recruited back to BMC in 1955 and, with his skills in designing small cars, was a natural for the task. The team that designed the Mini was remarkably small: as well as Issigonis, there was Jack Daniels (who had worked with him on the Morris Minor), Chris Kingham (who had been with him at Alvis), two engineering students and four draughtsmen. This 1967 Morris Mini Mk I is an original 850cc with a believed genuine 94,000 miles. The car was purchased by a female Jaguar employee in period and was subsequently passed through the generations until very recently when it was sold by her grandson. There are a large number of bills dating back from 1971 to 2011 documenting expenditure and general maintenance. A respray was carried out approximately 10 years ago and 'LOC 8IF' has been used sparingly since. There are small areas of bubbling in the usual places, however, the car is supplied with an MoT test certificate until 26th June 2012. With prices of Mk I minis steadily rising, this charming example is a worthy contender for a concours restoration or could be used in its current form. Finished in red with original red interior, 'LOC 8IF' will be driven to the auction and supplied with a heritage certificate.Lot 1211967 Morris Mini Mk I Registration: LOC 8IFChassis Number: MA2S4S 490542Engine Number: 1244280No Reserve Lot 121 » 1967 Morris Mini Mk I????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

www.silverstoneauctions.48com The MGA was a sports car produced by the MG division of The British Motor Corporation from 1955 to 1962. It replaced the older "T-type" cars and represented a complete styling break from the older vehicles. The A was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 5869 cars were sold on the home market, giving the MGA the highest export percentage of any British car. It was replaced by the MGB in May 1962.UXW186 is an original home market delivered MGA 1500 that benefits from a ten year amateur restoration by its current owner. There are photographs of the car taken back to bare metal in the history file along with bills and receipts for parts. The correct 1500cc engine was rebuilt by the owner and maintains healthy oil pressure. Offered in blue coachwork with black vinyl interior, this spritely 1500 MGA is supplied with V5C registration certificate, side screens, fibreglass hard-top, new hood and frame, new brake cylinders, stainless steel exhaust, an MoT test certificate until March 2013 and is reported by the owner to be a very sound and reliable car on the road. The quality of the paintwork has deteriorated since completion and the car would benefit from a respray. With current MGA prices reaching record highs, this car offers superb value for money with a realistic pre-auction estimate.
